Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, representative of the League party, said his country was ready to discuss the status of the Crimean Peninsula. His words in response to journalists' questions about the Crimea quoted the publication Il Giornale:

This is the task of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, I do not want to take away his work, but we will discuss everything

Italy threatened Europe to close the "Crimean question"

Salvini suggested that when discussing at the Council of the European Union the question of extending anti-Russian sanctions over Crimea, Italy would veto such a decision. The next discussion is scheduled for June 23. The politician also believes that the main threat is not in Russia at all.

If we are members of a defensive alliance, I would like it to protect us from real dangers from the south, and not from imaginary ones from the east

- he said.

Salvini's words were highly appreciated in Russia. So, a member of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation from Crimea Sergey Tsekov believes that this is a very positive moment. Any progress in recognizing the status of the peninsula and lifting sanctions improves the situation. However, despite the position of Italy, hardly all of Europe recognizes Crimea as Russian.

According to Tsekov, a consensus is needed for such a decision. However, the EU includes five countries that follow policies USA and are extremely anti-Russian. These are the three former Baltic republics of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, as well as Poland and Romania. However, the senator noted, Europe still understands that Crimea, both legally and in fact, has already forever become part of Russia.

In turn, the deputy of the State Council of the Republic of Crimea Vladislav Ganzhara is inclined to see more and more signals that many influential states are ready to recognize Crimea as Russian territory. He recalled that four years after the accession of the peninsula to the Russian Federation, he was visited by many delegations from Italy. They included prominent politicians, including former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.

Ganjara added that time plays in Russia's favor. Those who come to Crimea see how it is developing. Large infrastructure projects, in particular, the construction of the Crimean bridge, made the peninsula completely different. One cannot constantly ignore the choice of Crimeans.

Of course, it is impossible to ignore the fact that two and a half million people living in the territory of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol made their choice four years ago and are today citizens of the Russian Federation. Although the process of recognizing Crimea as Russian will not be quick, but the truth is on our side, and sooner or later the international community will recognize this

- stressed the parliamentarian.

The Permanent Representative of Crimea under the President of Russia Georgy Muradov came up with the idea that Matteo Salvini should come to the peninsula. This issue needs to be agreed with the Russian Foreign Ministry. Muradov congratulated Salvini on his appointment as deputy prime minister and recalled that earlier this Italian politician had already visited Crimea as part of one of the delegations.

It should be noted that the Liga party is one of the few European forces that recognized the results of the referendum in Crimea in 2014 as legal.
