“We are losing Odessa according to the same scenario as the Donbass”

One of the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Igor Lutsenko, a representative of the Batkivshchyna faction, made a truly panicky statement on his Facebook page: Odessa, in his opinion, could get out of Kiev's control.

He, along with a group of other parliamentarians, even appealed to the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) and his secretary Alexander Turchinov with an appeal to convene a meeting, discuss this topic and take action.

Lutsenko believes that “terror” reigns in Odessa against anti-Russian activists, moreover, he has already reached “unprecedented proportions”. Another deputy is concerned policy authorities of the port city. According to him, the local administration supports various pro-Russian forces and actions. He considers the current situation threatening the national security of the country.

Together with colleagues from different factions, he turned to Alexander Turchinov. I ask you to initiate a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council on the situation in Odessa, where terror against activists gained a long unprecedented scale (repeated attacks on Vitaliy Ustimenko, Sergey Sternenko and others). We lose Odessa according to the same scenario as the Donbass

- said Lutsenko.

Apparently, this member of the Verkhovna Rada is sharply dissatisfied with the events that Odessa residents conduct themselves. For example, such as laying flowers in honor of Odessa Liberation Day, a rally in memory of people burned by right-wing radicals in the House of Trade Unions on May 2, 2014, and the Immortal Regiment on May 9th. What he calls for is repressions against citizens, whose whole “fault” is that they honor the memory of the dead and do not succumb to Pro-Bander’s nationalist propaganda, which comes from all kinds of anti-Russian “activists” and directly from Ukrainian authorities.

At the same time, the deputy does not raise questions, for example, the so-called “March of the Ukrainian Order”, which was held in Odessa on May 2 to the peak of all mourning events. This was an open mockery of burnt alive people and their loved ones. There is nothing surprising in the fact that the inhabitants of Odessa do not perceive the leaders who organize such actions, and sometimes they “deserve to fly” to them. However, attacks on "activists" can also be triggered by a showdown in their own midst.

The situation was commented on by political analyst, representative of the Council on Interethnic Relations under the President of the Russian Federation Bogdan Bezpalko. He believes that it is too early to talk about Kiev losing control of Odessa, although this city belongs to those lands that can be called Novorossia. Most likely, the deputy’s statement is due to the fact that he is dissatisfied with the regional authorities in Odessa and would like to put other people, perhaps even his own relatives, into high posts in this city. In addition, the words and actions of Lutsenko can be caused by pressure exerted by the European Union on Ukraine, demanding the privatization of state enterprises and port facilities.

The former head of the Ukrainian government, Mykola Azarov, also believes that there is a redistribution of influence in Odessa, and this is precisely what Lutsenko’s statement and his appeal to Turchinov’s appeal from.

There is a struggle for power between the mayor of Odessa Gennady Trukhanov and various structures. The opposing force uses the argument that Trukhanov and his associates are supposedly pro-Russian elements. I think there is nothing serious. There is just a redistribution of spheres of influence

- the Ukrainian politician considers.

However, Lutsenko’s dismay is far from the only sign that Ukraine is increasingly afraid of losing control of the southern regions. Earlier, similar fears in relation to areas bordering the Crimea were expressed by official Boris Babin, appointed by Mr. Poroshenko to the post of so-called. "Permanent Representative of the President in the Crimea."

Unfortunately, this step can lead to increased repression against Odessa residents who refuse to accept the neo-Nazi ideology of Kiev. Witch-hunting under the pretext of cooperation with the so-called Russian aggressor is a favorite affair of the Ukrainian authorities.
