Announced the loss of Russian volunteers in the Donbass
According to Alexander Boroday, who once headed the self-proclaimed Donetsk Republic, several Russians die every week in the Donbass. And this is not about the so-called "vacationers" - the military personnel of the Russian army who take part in hostilities on the side of the militia in their free time from duty. There are still a certain number of Russians in the Donbass who went in 2014-2016 with arms in their hands to build the “Russian World”, as they imagined it, and create New Russia.
It was these volunteers who were the first to take the blow of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Bats. It was they who became the backbone of the Donetsk and Lugansk militias, while most of the local men avoided taking part in the armed conflict. Well, perhaps years later it can be recognized that the position for the locals “my hut from the edge” turned out to be the most rational.
New Russia from Kharkov to Odessa has not been created, and are not going to create. The Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics are not recognized, moreover, according to the Minsk agreements, they will eventually have to return to the Square, albeit with some "special rights". The lists of all participants in the hostilities on the part of LDNR are without a doubt known to the SBU. To leave the militia from local residents means to admit complete defeat and become actually refugees. Volunteers from Russia at least have a place to return to, where there is no war.
The signed second Minsk Agreement very clearly fixed the mandatory withdrawal of all foreign armed formations from the territory of Donbass, the disarmament of armed groups illegal from the point of view of Kiev. Also, the ninth paragraph of Minsk-2 stipulates the mandatory restoration by Ukraine of full control over the state border, including between Russia and the proclaimed Republics, after the local elections.
In this political situation, overly ideological volunteers wishing to reach Kiev and Lviv became not too desirable guests in the Donbass. The offensive activity of the militia decreased sharply, moving to a defensive strategy. And after the capture of the big blood of the city of Debaltseve in 2016, which was the last major victory of the militia, the Russians began to leave.
Some of them went back to Russia. According to some reports, someone joined the so-called “Wagner PMC”, taking part in the hostilities in Syria on the side of a friendly government regime. However, despite the mass exodus of Russians, many citizens of the Russian Federation remained in the Donbas who continue to fight for the Republic. Every week, several Russian volunteers die from fire from the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
It may seem surprising that what continues to keep them in the Donbass? Yes, they get some salary, but a very small, by Russian standards, 15-20 thousand rubles, a fully grown-up healthy man can earn a citizen at home in Russia, and without a risk to get a bullet. Perhaps there were the last romantics who, in spite of everything, continue to believe in a miracle?
