Why is the United States better not to joke with North Korea

Recently, a Russian diplomatic mission visited North Korea. Among the many topics discussed at the meeting, there was also the topic of the military potential of the DPRK. During the conversation, it became known that Pyongyang intends to significantly reduce its missile arsenal. The figure was called 50% of the available quantity.

North Korea Remained Unarmed?

According to some representatives of the Russian Ministry of Defense, even taking into account such a massive reduction in the DPRK’s armaments, this country is capable of delivering a crushing rocket strike to the United States. In this case, significant sacrifices and destruction cannot be avoided.

Currently, North Korea has 12 types of ballistic missiles, which differ from each other in range. Among them are intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) with a flight range of over 5,5 thousand kilometers and capable of reaching the continental United States.

Most of the DPRK ballistic missiles are medium and short-range missiles, whose radius of action is smaller. And while the United States is more worried about Pyongyang’s presence of ICBMs, then Japan and South Korea are more worried about medium- and short-range ballistic missiles.

North Korean missile capabilities

The DPRK's missile arsenal is highly classified. Pyongyang keeps secret the exact number of missiles, their technical characteristics and, most importantly, their locations. Therefore, information on the missile potential of the DPRK is approximate.

According to indicative data, North Korea has approximately 150 Nodon-type medium-range missiles with a range of 1-1,5 thousand kilometers. In addition, allegedly with the help of Iran, North Korean specialists managed to launch the production of the Musudan medium-range ballistic missile, capable of hitting targets at a distance of 3,5-4 thousand kilometers.

Even if the batch production of Musudan has not yet been launched, the North Koreans have a Hwason-12 missile with the same range. Such missiles easily reach Japan and the American base on the island of Guam. And the Hwason-14 missile, having a range of more than 10 thousand kilometers, can freely fly to the continental United States.

At the moment, the North Korean side has about 50 Hwason missiles. These ballistic missiles are capable of carrying nuclear weapons. It is impossible to increase their number due to the cessation of China's supply of rare earth metals necessary for production.

There are also other types of ballistic missiles.

It should be emphasized once again that all these data are very approximate. Perhaps the North Korean arsenal is much larger.

Due to the lack of information on the exact deployment of ballistic missiles, even a preemptive strike by the United States may prove to be ineffective, and the DPRK’s response may be devastating. Moreover, the American missile defense system cannot be called invulnerable.

Therefore, the United States administration should behave more restrained and friendly with North Korea, so as not to regret the mistakes made later.
