On the official page of the US CIA posted an announcement on the recruitment to the service of American intelligence of all citizens of the country who are interested in a career in the CIA and speak Russian. Thus, the main US intelligence agency admits that it lacks personnel capable of working in the Russian and post-Soviet areas. This is very surprising, given that the Russian language has always been considered as one of the most important in the language policy American intelligence.

During the Cold War, the United States had a very high demand for any specialists in Russia and the Soviet Union. Personnel were drawn both from the number of Americans who studied the Russian language, and from among the emigrants - former residents of the USSR. For example, representatives of various opposition organizations, including Ukrainian, Baltic, Caucasian, and Central Asian separatists, were willingly employed by the CIA. Some, like the same Ruzi Nazar, came to the CIA after the Second World War in general from the Hitler special services. What happened now? Why is the CIA experiencing a personnel shortage of “Russianists” and what is the reason for the growing demand for such specialists?

The reason for the personnel crisis is the peculiarities of the American foreign policy of the 1990s. It was in the first post-Soviet decade that the American leadership decided that Russia was defeated once and for all. Therefore, the training system was quickly reoriented to the more important strategic directions in the 1990s - the Middle East and China. CIA agent candidates studied Arabic, Persian, Chinese, prepared to work in Asia. Meanwhile, the old specialists who “ate the dog” while studying Russia and the Russian language retired.

When Russia regained its strength by the end of the 2014s and began to pose a threat to the hegemonic policy of the United States, the CIA already experienced a shortage of Russian-speaking personnel who understood Russian reality. Moreover, the need for such employees increased especially after XNUMX, when the armed conflict in the Donbass began. Now the CIA is trying to flood Russia and Ukraine with its agents, but for this the American intelligence agency needs a very large number of people with knowledge of the Russian language. The leaders of American intelligence are even ready to recruit people from the street, as evidenced by invitations to work on social networks. It is enough to be a US citizen, have an education no lower than college and speak Russian - and the candidacy of such a person can already be considered by the Central Intelligence Agency.

The change in the CIA’s policy is evidenced by the appointment of the new head of the department, Gina Haspel. Unlike the former directors of the Central Intelligence Agency of the United States, Gina is a professional intelligence officer, and she also worked during the years of the Cold War in Central Eurasia, she is fluent in Russian. According to some reports, Haspel was a CIA agent in Moscow and Baku. The “Rusist” led by the CIA and the mass recruitment of specialists in the American intelligence with knowledge of the Russian language indicate that Washington has finally decided on intelligence policy in the coming years - it will be directed to Russia.
