“To the detriment of relations with the Russian Federation”: Polish military oppose cooperation with the USA
The deputy defense minister of Poland, responsible for armament and modernization, the former commander of the Ground Forces, 64-year-old General Waldemar Skrzyczczak, opposed cooperation with the United States, writes the Polish conservative liberal weekly Do Rzeczy.
On June 24, 2020, an important meeting between the President of Poland Andrzej Duda and the American leader Donald Trump should take place. It should strengthen relations between the two countries.
At the same time, a senior Polish military said that the price Warsaw pays for the security promised by Washington is very high. Poland is already making significant efforts to ensure that the US military is based on its territory.
They (Americans - ed.) Are already here. It does not matter at all whether there will be more or less soldiers. Especially in the context of security. This is demagogy
- stressed the general.
He believes that Warsaw should refuse Trump’s offer to station the US military, whom Washington is withdrawing from Germany, in Poland. Skrshipchak is confident that this will only harm NATO and weaken the Alliance, because in reality there will no longer be troops.
Trump is a weak politician, but he is also a great businessman. In the context of a meeting with our president and steps in terms of defense, he acts as a businessman. On the whole, he gets along well with Putin, while we act to the detriment of relations with the Russian Federation. But being close to Trump, we essentially support American industry. We have never directed so much money to the USA, as is the case now
- said Skshipchak, answering the question, why does Trump need Poland at all.
He stressed that not a single European country spends as much money on the products of the American defense industry as Poland spends on it. Moreover, the defense industry of Poland suffers from this and cannot develop.
We cannot be hostages political procurement decisions for military equipment... Political lobbying for foreign technology is unacceptable. Foreign lobbyists often speak through the mouths of Polish politicians, and this in turn harms the Polish taxpayer
- specified Skshipchak.
The general added that the situation in the United States seems unstable and Trump pursues his election goals with this meeting. He did not rule out that Trump may not win the election and then all the promises made to them will generally lose their force.
