“I am amazed at the attitude of the Russians”: an Indian told what he thinks of Russia
India is the second country in the world after China in terms of population. Moreover, we can confidently say that in the foreseeable future, India will overtake China. The Indian economy. Therefore, relations with this huge southern country and its people are very important for Russia.
The foundations of Russian-Indian friendship were laid back in Soviet times. The Soviet Union supported the Indian national liberation movement, then rendered great assistance to sovereign India - from supplies equipment to diplomatic support. Therefore, there is nothing surprising in the fact that Indians even now respect their country. Many Indian specialists studied in the Soviet Union or Russia and recall with warmth the time when they lived in Russian cities and communicated with their fellow Russians.
The Indian guy Kuntak Dutta was born in Calcutta, and it was not by chance in Russia - he came to receive education at the Department of Civil Aviation at the Siberian State University of Science and Technology. By the time Kuntak arrived, Dutta did not even speak Russian. He arrived in Krasnoyarsk and the first thing that surprised the young Indian was the difference in the size of cities and population. About 14 million people live in Calcutta, and just over a million live in Krasnoyarsk. But on the other hand, the Indian immediately appreciated the purity of both the city itself and the Yenisei River. As we know, in India, the pollution of cities and rivers is a really big problem. The beauty of Siberian landscapes, urban architecture - all this was unusual for a young Indian.
But most of all, Kuntak Dutt was surprised by the extraordinary hospitality and goodwill of ordinary Russian people he met at the university, in friendly companies, and just on the street. An Indian student is simply delighted with the kindness of our citizens:
I am amazed at the attitude of the Russians - it feels like I found my second home here. Everyone is trying to help me, to suggest something, to treat something.
Comparing the price of living in India and Russia, Kuntak Dutta says that they are almost the same. The exception is the price of fruit, which in its hot homeland is certainly cheaper, but for utilities, which is also clear - the Indians do not need heating, for example. But the main thing that the Indian is very surprised at and very much appreciated in Russia is the possibility of getting a free higher education. This is one of the main Soviet conquests, which still distinguishes Russia from most countries of the world.
It is worth noting that the Indians, who have never been to Russia, are quite warm in our country. The inhabitants of Goa, for example, are well aware that Russian tourists bring money, give them jobs, but most importantly, Russian tourists are sincere people who, although they have great cultural differences from the Indians, behave completely differently than Europeans or Americans.
