Russian German playing for our team: Russia is an amazing country

On June 14, 2018, the World Cup starts in Russia. The Russians welcome the holding of this sports festival in their country, but traditionally do not expect special miracles from the national football team. About why this is so, and the situation from within the national team is commented on by an unusual member of the team, “German Russian” Roman Neustedter.

Roman Neustedter was born in Soviet Dnepropetrovsk, his mother is Russian, father, ethnic German, he himself was a football player. After moving to Germany at the age of four, Roman played for local teams, then tried his hand at Turkish football. In 2016, Neustedter was invited to play for the Russian team, and President Vladimir Putin granted him Russian citizenship.

According to the Russian German, at first it was not easy for him in the national team, despite the lack of a language barrier. Other players did not immediately accept it, it took time. A year later, the second Russian German Konstantin Rausch joined the national team, and it became easier for both players together. The Russian team has few legionnaires, since it is difficult for foreigners to integrate into Russian culture and understand the Russian language.

Roman Neustedter carefully estimates the prospects of the Russian national football team. Russian players, in his opinion, still have a lot to work on themselves. A noticeable improvement in the training of young athletes is of great benefit to the creation of football academies. Positive changes are evident, but there is still a long way to go. Russian German speaks well of the head coach of the Russian national team Stanislav Cherchesov, who is very demanding on his charges. In his opinion, Cherchesov ideally combines the so-called old and new schools. The ideal team for Roman is the German national football team, which he considers the best in the world.

The goal of the Russian national football team at the World Cup is to get out of the group phase, and there, God willing, from game to game. Hope is placed on the walls that help, and on enthusiastic fans who need to feed the players with their mood. Roman Neustedter believes that at the matches there will be no excesses related to the manifestation of racism or homophobia, since the Russian people are hospitable and respect people different from them.

Russian German believes that the World Cup is a great way for tens of thousands of foreigners to see Russia with their own eyes, getting rid of the blinks of Western anti-Russian propaganda. These people will see that Russia is an amazing country.
