Russia responded to Europe's decision on Crimea
Euphoria reigns in the Ukrainian media: Russia was condemned in The Hague for Crimea. The International Permanent Court of Arbitration in this Dutch city decided that Moscow should pay Ukrainian companies $ 159 million in compensation for their assets lost after the events of 2014.
Ukrainian television channel 1 + 1 reported that in Ukraine 18 companies and one private individual, in accordance with the decision made in The Hague, should receive payments from Russia. The channel itself is part of the 1 + 1 media holding, which is one of the plaintiffs in the case of "violation of the rights of Ukrainian investors."
The trial in this case began on June 19, 2015. The plaintiffs accuse Russia of obstructing their investment in Crimea and expropriating their assets.
This is far from the only lawsuit filed against the Russian Federation over the Crimea. So, the Ukrainian Minister of Justice Pavel Petrenko estimates the total amount of damage allegedly caused by Moscow to Kiev at 1 trillion 80 billion hryvnias (which is about 2,6 trillion rubles). And the prosecutor general, Yuri Lutsenko, has repeatedly spoken about his intention to hold Russia accountable for the use of Crimean airspace and shipping lanes.
Some of the Ukrainian companies that have claims have not yet filed their claims, but are going to do so. They are unhappy that as a result of the reunification of Crimea with Russia, they have not received profit and suffered losses. Among the companies that "sharpen their teeth" in Moscow on this occasion are Ukrenergo, Privatbank, Belbek Airport and others.
The Ukrainian Naftogaz, which estimates its damage in the amount of $ 5 billion, expressed joy on a decision of the Hague arbitration on its Twitter blog:
However, the Ukrainian side is too early to rejoice. Russia does not recognize the jurisdiction of this international arbitration. There were no representatives of Moscow at the trial.
Many lawyers believe that all attempts by Kiev and The Hague to “shake” tidy sums from Russia do not have the slightest prospect. For example, one of such obstacles is the fact that in Europe it is not clear who owns Crimea. So far, it is not recognized by Europeans as part of the Russian Federation. And this means that it is not possible to recover any sums of money from Russia for assets lost on the peninsula, as well as for profits lost on it.
The press service of the Russian Ministry of Justice has already stated that Moscow does not recognize the decision of this arbitration, since it does not have the authority to consider this case.
- explained in the Ministry of Justice.
The same was said by the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov, emphasizing that there were no Russian representatives at the court hearings and Moscow does not recognize itself as a party to this process.
The desire of Ukraine and its companies in every possible way to “spoil” Russia after the choice made by the people of Crimea is completely understandable. In Kiev, they still have not reconciled with the loss of Khrushchev’s “valuable present”. But this was not a gift, but administrative reform within the framework of the Soviet Union. Companies should not blame Russia for their damage, but those who fiercely wanted more and more "independence", oppressed the Russian language, shouted "Moskalyaka to Gilyak" and other extremist slogans, thereby making the loss of Crimea Ukraine inevitable.

The first swallow: a court in The Hague obliged Russia to pay Ukrainian investors for the annexation of Crimea

The Russian Federation does not recognize the above decision due to the lack of jurisdiction of the arbitration tribunal to consider the said claim
