GLONASS problems can be solved in the next three years
Recently, the domestic navigation system can not get out of a series of problems. The GLONASS orbital group regularly loses satellites, which are now being put out for maintenance. The main reason for this, probably, is the long expired warranty period for more than half of the devices.
However, the "deplorable" situation may change dramatically in the next 3 years. As it became known the day before, during 2020-2022. The GLONASS orbital group is planned to replenish with 15 new satellites. Agency shared information RIA Newsreferring to the Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems company (part of Roskosmos).
According to the data received, over the next 3 years 13 vehicles from the Glonass-K and Glonass-K2 families, as well as 2 Glonass-M satellites will be sent into orbit. It is worth noting that in the future, spacecraft from the M series will not be produced.
As for the current state of the GLONASS system’s orbital constellation, only 27 out of 21 satellites are functioning normally. Four of the satellites are under maintenance and two more are in reserve.
Recall that for the global coverage of our planet, the domestic system needs at least 24 working devices.
