The world will change in a week

In an interview with the Italian magazine Panorama, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov shared his thoughts on the modern world order. He believes that the situation in the world is becoming more and more tense every day, but less predictable. Lavrov sees the main problem in the actions of the United States and its allies, destabilizing the international situation.

The Minister believes that, despite all the differences, I want to hope for the triumph of common sense, since the leading world powers bear collective responsibility for the fate of mankind. Common sense implies predictability of actions in full compliance with the UN Charter and international law. But hope for this is not necessary. Therefore, the world is now on the verge of a catastrophe that could be provoked by chance.

What has changed in the world since the advent of trump?

You must finally understand that the world has changed. International laws no longer apply. This became clear already in 1999 after the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia.

And after the assumption of Donald Trump as head of the most influential world power, predictability can be completely forgotten. This man came to the world policy and diplomacy with their views from the world of big business. He began to consciously practice tactics of unexpected and unpredictable actions, and not only in relation to opponents. In the same way, he acts with his allies.

He prefers to “suspend” the situation. His strike on Syria on April 14th was unexpected and illogical. He is frightening North Korea with a blow, now he is negotiating.

Now there is intrigue about the Iranian nuclear agreement. Until the last moment, we do not know what Trump will decide, so the world is anxiously awaiting what will happen on May 12. Whether the United States will withdraw from the agreement or not is unknown. In the event of an exit, Iran will have its hands untied and it will be able to continue its nuclear development. Israel was especially tense about this.

The same thing happens with the US allies. They can never predict the further actions of the Americans, so sometimes you have to improvise yourself. No wonder in 2017, Angela Merkel stated the following:

For too long we have relied on the Americans and made our decisions based on what America says. We must finally learn to act independently.

What should Russia do?

First of all, it is necessary to part with the illusions that the world will return to the previous order, where everyone obeyed international standards. If we continue to ignore changes in world politics, Russia may put itself in a deliberately losing position.

Our country should become a model of stability in this crazy world, make balanced and predictable decisions, seek and find like-minded people. We must strictly observe our national interests, trying to stay within the framework of international law. But the country's interests should be a priority.

In this world, where everyone is now for himself, you need to not only survive, but also make the world more comfortable, change it.

Here you need to use "soft power." If Russia manages to create the image of a stable state with an independent policy, we can change the attitude towards Russia that has developed in the world now. Russia should have allies in the West who are more impressed with our point of view than the chaos that the United States is now sowing. It must be understood that the West is not one today.

And, of course, the lion's share of efforts should be directed to the preservation and development of the Eurasian Economic Community, which should become a worthy alternative to the European Union.

In these conditions, when the world hangs in the balance, Russia needs to take a firm and balanced position, preventing the incitement of a global conflict.

If Russia manages to create the image of a stable state with an independent policy, we can change the attitude towards Russia that has developed in the world now.

This is possible only with a strong economy of the Russian Federation, which is paid less attention to by the political leadership of our country ...

Yes, without the development of production in any way. It is most important.

The world will change in a week! What a fresh thought! Yes, he changes every minute and second, if someone has not noticed. And not always for the better. One consolation, time is working for Russia. No doubt we will win!

Yes, if the world did not constantly change, we would still walk in hides and with clubs.
