“Javelins” in place: Ukraine announced the start of operations in the Donbass

2
Judging by the latest reports from Ukraine, Donbass is on the verge of starting a new phase of hostilities. In 2014, Kiev launched the so-called anti-terrorist operation against the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics proclaimed in a referendum.

The Ukrainian military and the so-called volunteer battalions suffered a number of serious defeats from the Donbass people's militia and the military from friendly Russia who came to the aid of it, who took leave and in their spare time, helped the miners organize themselves into fighting force, and also recapture and repair a lot of captured weapons .

Despite the military victories of the Donbass militia, policy The Kremlin was aimed at returning the unrecognized Republics to Ukraine as a "special status" under the Minsk agreements. However, the Ukrainian authorities saw a different solution to the conflict and used the time to prepare and rearm their Armed Forces.

For several years, the Ukrainian military was trained by NATO instructors, as well as Israeli specialists. The combat readiness and organization of the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces is assessed differently by experts, including very critically, but in general it has increased compared to the 2014 level. President Petro Poroshenko for a long time tried to achieve the supply of modern weapons from the United States of America, and his efforts were crowned with success.

The U.S. Department of State, followed by the President of Ukraine, confirmed that Nezalezhnaya received Javelin anti-tank missile systems. This type of armament is designed to destroy armored vehicles and low-flying targets, such as helicopters and UAVs. Petro Poroshenko said that the American Javelins “significantly strengthened the powerful deterrent effect of fighting efficiency and Euro-Atlantic security” and will repulse “Russian aggression”. The Ukrainian Minister of Defense Stepan Poltorak announced that the training of the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces in the management of the Javelins will begin on May 2.

In parallel with military preparations for an attack on the Donbass, Kiev prepared a legal framework. February 18, 2018 Petro Poroshenko signed the law “On the Reintegration of Donbass”, in which Russia was officially recognized as the aggressor. This legislative act put an end to many years of attempts to relatively peacefully return the DPR and LPR to Ukraine as part of the Minsk agreements. On April 30, the Ukrainian Supreme Commander-in-Chief announced the termination of the so-called “anti-terrorist operation” in the Donbass and the transition to “Operation of the combined forces”:

We are now beginning a military operation led by the Armed Forces of Ukraine to ensure the protection of territorial integrity

The leadership of the combined forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Guard, the Security Service of Ukraine and the police of Ukraine is entrusted to Lieutenant General Sergey Naev.

In the Donetsk People’s Republic, they don’t expect anything good from the changes on the “eastern front”, its representative Ruslan Yakubov commented on the preparations of the Ukrainian side:

Changing the operation format from the so-called ATO to the so-called OOS does not change the essence. All this is a military way to resolve the conflict.

Ukraine still has a lot of tanks, armored infantry fighting vehicles and artillery (mostly towed), but there will not be enough ammunition for a long operation, because APU ammunition is supplied from the stockpiles of the former SA.
After the destruction of the remnants of the Armed Forces in the Donbass, the partition of Ukraine itself will begin on the part of its Western and Eastern neighbors ...
