Russia on the eve made a commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere by ratifying the Paris climate agreement, the possible consequences of which have been studied for 3 years. But why is this for our country?
After all, it is no secret to anyone that the so-called “eco-dictatorship” allows strong and wealthy countries to restrain the development of their less “successful” opponents, “curtailing” the possibilities of the coal industry and simultaneously pumping money for inefficient renewable energy sources. And it is obvious that the Swedish activist schoolgirl Greta Thunberg is a well-thought-out project that contributes to the implementation of the above strategy.
For Russia, ratification gave some “delay”, which avoids the pressure of Western “partners”, which will be felt by those who have not yet joined the eco-club. In addition, our country was rather “transparently” pointed out that in case of refusal to ratify the Paris Agreement, the development of the Northern Sea Route would be in jeopardy. And the latter, as you know, is the key to our economic development.
In addition, the “coercion” to reduce greenhouse emissions will inevitably push Russia to increase energy efficiency, which, in turn, will make it possible to modernize production and reach a new, better level. Moreover, in this regard, we already have an advantage, since more than 80% of electricity generation in the Russian Federation comes from plants with low carbon dioxide emissions.
It is also worth noting that in recent years, Russia has made an impressive breakthrough in the development of renewable energy sources. Moreover, most of the components for power units are produced by domestic enterprises. Therefore, to impose on us foreign imports will not work.
But why did the USA leave the Paris climate agreement? This move was the mirror response of US President Donald Trump to the actions of European partners in the so-called trade wars. However, many believe that such a "mistake" he will still be remembered in the upcoming elections.
In turn, China, which is the main producer of greenhouse gases, supports this agreement (for reasons similar to Russia), while the US, on the contrary, condemns it.
