After a series of victories in Damascus (the liberation of East Guta and East Kalamun), the next region of the battles of the Syrian army may be the province of Homs. According to the Arab portal Al Masdar, the elite special forces unit of the Tiger Force will be deployed there to conduct a major operation against terrorists.

The Tiger Forces played a crucial role in the successes of the Syrian authorities in Damascus. They are currently fighting against the outbreaks of the Islamic State terrorist organization (banned in Russia) in southern Damascus. However, at present, successful operations in the Syrian capital can take place without the participation of special forces. Therefore, it will be directed to the north of the province of Homs.

Meanwhile, “opposition” militants continue to kill civilians in Damascus. According to the head of the Center for the Reconciliation of the warring parties, Major General Yuri Yevtushenko, on April 27 two civilians were killed, 16 were injured as a result of mortar shelling of the Tadamun, Midan and Al-Qadam neighborhoods. The fire was fired from the Yarmouk camp, which is under the control of the Islamic State.

While there are fights in Syria, Russia does not stop diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis.

On April 28, Moscow hosted an extraordinary meeting of the foreign ministers of three countries - Russia, Iran and Turkey. It is these states that are the guarantors in the Astana process of promoting a settlement in Syria. The foreign ministers of the three countries stated that they support the sovereignty and preservation of the territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic. They made a statement demanding that the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) conduct “timely and professional” investigations.

After the meeting, a telephone conversation took place between the heads of the foreign affairs agencies of Russia and France - Sergey Lavrov and Jean-Yves Le Drian. Lavrov informed his French counterpart about the results of negotiations between Moscow, Tehran and Ankara.

The head of Russian diplomacy informed the French side that the attacks on Syria on April 14 were illegal and threw the negotiation process back. In a conversation with the French Foreign Minister, Lavrov also noted that these attacks were carried out on the eve of the planned arrival of experts from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in Damascus.

According to the Russian minister, Moscow is still open for dialogue with all parties interested in resolving the Syrian conflict on the basis of UN Security Council resolution No. 2254.

Unfortunately, those parties (including France) who are bombing a sovereign state accusing it of using chemical weapons are completely incapable of normal dialogue, not only until the end of the investigation, but even before it began, before the place of the alleged incident arrived OPCW inspectors. In case of further successes of the Syrian army in the fight against terrorists, one can expect new provocative statements and actions of the West.
