North Korea detonated itself with a nuclear charge

0
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un announced the country's abandonment of nuclear tests and the transition to peaceful construction of a prosperous socialist economics. This was perceived by the world community as the result of the efforts of diplomats. True, there is an assumption that the cessation of testing is associated with serious damage to the landfill, making it impossible to continue its operation.

What happened to Mantap Mountain?

This version was put forward by two independent groups of Chinese scientists who investigated this issue. They recorded serious destruction of Mount Mantap, inside of which nuclear tests were carried out. This worries China, as the landfill is located just 100 kilometers from the Chinese border.

The last nuclear explosion, carried out on September 3 of last year, rendered the Phungeri test site unusable and created a threat of radioactive contamination of the area not only in the DPRK, but also in the territory of neighboring states. As a result of the destruction, a crack formed, which plays the role of a chimney. Through it, radioactive substances can rise into the air.

How was the nuclear test

The last North Korean nuclear test inside the mountain was the sixth in a row. All previous explosions were carried out here in the same way. The charge was transported along a horizontal tunnel to the center of the mountain, after which it sank to a 2-kilometer depth and exploded there.

Last September, the turn came to test a 100-kiloton thermonuclear charge. The explosion, which occurred 700 meters from the top of the mountain, almost instantly vaporized the rock inside, creating a cavity with a diameter of 200 meters, and part of the ridge fell into the resulting void.

All this can also provoke the eruption of Changbai Mountain, which is located on the Sino-Korean border.

What to do?

Definitely, it is impossible to continue using Mount Mantap for nuclear testing. According to one of the groups of Chinese researchers, landfill repair is not possible.

Others, in particular, American seismologists, believe that if you adjust the calculations and take into account the fatigue of rocks, you can use the landfill further.

And the Chinese scientist Gou Qiuju believes that Chinese experts, if requested by the Korean side, could help neutralize the consequences of the explosions and eliminate the danger. It would be possible, for example, to eliminate harmful substances by chemical means, apply an earthen layer to the damaged side of the mountain, or fill the cracks with a special composition. And of course, do not return to nuclear testing.

It makes sense for the Chinese to join in solving the problem, because it threatens the security of their country.
