Features of the August protests in Moscow
On August 10, another opposition rally was held in Moscow, the third in a month. In principle, it does not matter what they were dedicated to, since the theme of any such event sounds approximately the same - “For all good and against all bad”. However, in spite of a certain routine, these protests stand out from the previous ones due to several circumstances: occasion, participation of leaders of public opinion, foreign policy features.
So, firstly, it is important to note that the reason that encouraged people to go out this time is, frankly, weak. It is assumed that the CEC, due to made-up reasons, refused to register some people as candidates for the Moscow City Duma. Dissatisfied with this decision, opposition leaders urged people to first go to unauthorized rallies on August 27 and 3, and then to an authorized one on August 10. It can hardly be said that the Moscow City Duma is an organ that can significantly affect essential things. Therefore, any questions arising in connection with its functioning usually do not cause such a wide stir. Moreover, the recent incident with Ivan Golunov caused a much greater resonance and affected wide sections of the population. However, he did not lead to such active, consistent actions over a short period of time. Other, seemingly more significant reasons, for example, the adoption of the law on the “sovereign Internet”, also did not lead to such earlier.
Separately, we note that the situation with the refusal to register candidates and the actions of the police during dispersal of rallies, in any case, were for the opposition a game with a positive amount. So, in the case of deliberate falsification of signatures and the identification of this fact by the CEC, the latter could be accused of falsification. Which, in fact, was done. In turn, it is clear that any unauthorized action in the center of Moscow will be suppressed. In view of this, it seems that the opposition leaders, calling on them, were well aware that this would lead not only to the detention of thousands of people, but also to the formation of profitable for them political agenda. By the way, dissatisfaction of citizens with the situation around the fires in Siberia also played into their hands.
Secondly, for the first time in a long time, the group of media personalities calling to participate in rallies has changed. So, in particular, Yuri Dud and Miron Fedorov ("Oxxxymiron") previously avoided this topic. Alexander Timartsev (Restaurateur), D. Poperechny, Ivan Dreomin (Face), IC3PEAK group and others expressed their support for the protesters or they themselves came to a protest rally. Without a doubt, they are leaders in public opinion among young people aged from 16 to 25 years. This once again confirms the trend of actively involving a new generation of Russian citizens in the protest activity. In addition, it seems that the public position of this group has become one of the key resources that allowed the rally on August 10 to become the largest since the time of the Swamp. Here, another problem can be noted - the practical absence of equally popular personalities among young people who would take the opposite position.
Finally, thirdly, it is worth paying attention to foreign policy features. First of all, we make a reservation that any mention of external forces when organizing anti-government measures in Russia causes a smile and sarcasm in a certain group of people. At the same time, it is quite obvious for these citizens that the Russian special services are literally involved in everything, starting from Black Lives Matter shares in the USA and ending with Yellow Vests in France. Any mass protest cannot arise out of the blue, internal reasons must ripen for it. There is no smoke without fire. However, one should not deny that external factors, mainly its geopolitical opponents, are interested in anti-government actions in any country. Moreover, they often contribute to their organization. Note that at the moment, in addition to Russia, in another large country, permanent protests are taking place - in China. Moreover, the seemingly quiet protests in Hong Kong flared up with renewed vigor at about the same time as the Russians. In this regard, a number of questions arise.
Who benefits from the destabilization of the domestic political situation in countries? Of course, the answer immediately suggests itself - the USA. As you know, this country is to blame if not all, then almost all of our troubles.
But are the claims so baseless in this case? Undoubtedly, both Russia and China are the main geopolitical opponents of the United States. This fact, in particular, is reflected in the National Security Strategy of this country. Obviously, the political destabilization of Russia and China will be beneficial for the States. Do they have the resources to organize any destructive movements? Yes they do. So, in particular, the other day it became known about the meeting of the American diplomat and the leaders of the Hong Kong protest. Finally, is there a connection between Russian and Chinese protests and why did they start right now? At the moment, the answer to this question is quite difficult to give.
Thus, the protests of the last month and, in particular, on August 10, in the absence of a serious reason, have acquired a rather serious scale. They involved a number of new media persons for such events, who made a certain contribution to attracting people. Finally, perfectly aware of the internal causes of the protests, do not write off the external aspect.
