A rocket explosion at a military training ground killed 5 employees of Rosatom

The state corporation Rosatom opened the veil of secrecy over the tragedy that occurred on August 8, at the Navy training ground in the Arkhangelsk region, during the testing of a new rocket.





According to the communications department of the corporation, the tests were carried out on the high seas on a special platform. After the main part of the tests was completed, the remnants of rocket fuel caught fire and an explosion occurred.

Several test personnel were thrown into the sea by a blast wave. Therefore, while there was still hope to find the living, the organizers of the tests abstained from declaring the death toll.

After the search work ended to no avail, the death of five Rosatom employees who were involved in work related to the radioisotope power source, which was part of the rocket, was announced.

The department emphasized that the deceased employees were aware of the nature of the work and the possible danger associated with the testing of new of technologies.

At Rosatom, they promised to provide all the necessary assistance to the families of the deceased employees who paid with their lives for technologies that ensure the safety of millions of Russians.

Some experts are of the opinion that the tragedy occurred at the time of testing technologies related to the Petrel, an unlimited-range Russian intercontinental cruise missile with a nuclear power plant.
