Exports of Russian coal to Ukraine fell to a record level
Recently сообщалосьthat Russian companies do not want to stop supplying coal to Ukraine, despite the restrictions imposed by the Russian government on June 1, 2019 on the export of energy resources to a neighboring country. And now, it became known that the supply of coal from Russia to Ukraine, in June 2019, fell by 750 thousand tons, i.e. - by a record 85%, and amounted to only 129,3 thousand tons.
This is evidenced by the data of the Central Dispatch Department of the Fuel and Energy Complex (CDU TEK) located in Moscow. It is a recognized and authoritative source of industry information, including analytical, with more than 30 years of history.
In total, in the first half of 2019, coal supplies from Russia to Ukraine decreased by 11,1%, or 556 thousand tons, and amounted to 4,9 million tons. Moreover, in the first five months of 2019, coal supplies grew, but in June, the dynamics changed dramatically.
It should be noted that at the end of April 2019, the Russian government adopted a resolution according to which the delivery of certain goods to Ukraine, including coal, from June 1, 2019 can be carried out exclusively with the special permission of the Ministry of Economic Development. As a result, despite the optimism of market representatives, in June 2019, most of the largest Russian exporters either stopped coal supplies or significantly reduced them.
Where Ukraine will take the missing coal is not yet clear. It is also known that coal from the USA, Australia and South Africa is much more expensive than coal from Russia or the republics of Donbass, because its transportation costs very decent money. Therefore, we are waiting with undisguised interest for information from the Ukrainian side.
