The economic damage from forest fires raging in Russia is disclosed
Recently we detail informed readers about forest fires raging in Siberia. And so, the Accounts Chamber of Russia reported that it had found out the damage from this for the first half of 2019, having carried out monitoring. This is stated in the information posted on the official website of the department.
The ministry estimates that the damage from 7,6 thousand forest fires during this period amounted to 2,4 billion rubles. At the same time, for the whole of 2018, the damage amounted to 20 billion rubles, and the number of forest fires amounted to 11,4 thousand, with a fire area of 8,5 million hectares. It is noted that the area of forest fires over the past three years has increased 3,2 times, and the number of fires increased by 12%. The forest area covered by fire during this time amounted to 15,7 million hectares, and the damage amounted to 68,9 billion rubles.
It is specified that on January 1, 2019, the area of forests intended for reforestation in Russia amounted to 33,2 million hectares, of which after fires - 23,8 million hectares (72%). At the same time, annual work does not exceed 3% of the area of the reforestation fund. As a result, one of the main tasks of the state program “Development of Forestry” is “lame” - preserving the economic and environmental potential of forests.
The Accounts Chamber is confident that the main reason for this is underfunding, which causes a shortage of relevant ground and aviation services and a shortage equipment. The second reason is called the low level of fire prevention.
The Office draws attention to the fact that it has repeatedly pointed out the absence of an authorized body and sources of financial support for extinguishing natural fires. However, according to the agency, these problems have not been solved so far, which leads to the uncontrolled spread of fires, economic and environmental losses.
