The world's first unmanned parking for cars opened in Germany

German authorities gave permission to operate an automated parking lot developed by Daimler and Bosch. The so-called unmanned garage is located in the territory of the Mercedes-Benz Museum (Stuttgart) and has been tested since 2015.

The brainchild of German engineers combines two common concepts. The first involves parking using robotic equipment and other devices. A similar system is already being tested at several European airports, and in 2017, in the Düsseldorf air harbor, it has become available to ordinary citizens. The second concept is for unmanned vehicles equipped with a parking card. In this case, the car itself enters the designated place for it.

To use the services of an unmanned garage, it is enough for the driver to call in a place for the delivery of the car. You can then leave the vehicle and activate automatic parking using the mobile application. Further, the system will take care of everything.
Coordination of the movement of the car to the designated parking space occurs through sensors and cameras installed around the perimeter. The return of the vehicle to the owner is carried out in the same way.

It is worth noting that the document received by Daimler and Bosch from the Ministry of Transport of the State of Baden-Württemberg is the first permit in the world to operate an unmanned parking without the presence of an insurance driver. The developer did not specify which vehicles an unmanned garage would be compatible with. But, most likely, we are talking about models from the concern Mercedes-Benz.
