The Council of Europe has demanded tens of millions of euros from Russia
As soon as Russia returned to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the financial requirements for our country from this organization immediately appeared.
To begin with, after deciding on the return of the Russian Federation to PACE, Moscow immediately paid a fee to the Council of Europe for 2019. This was announced by spokesman for the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Daniel Holtgen. The contribution, by the way, is 33 million euros.
However, Holthen soon announced that Russia, it turns out, had not yet paid everything to the Council of Europe. According to the organization’s spokesman, Moscow owes 55 million euros. And now the Council of Europe is demanding that Russia contribute this money.
It should be noted that on June 26 the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted a resolution that returned Russia to the organization and fully restored its rights.
This decision of PACE, for which the majority of European deputies voted, led to scandal in the Parliamentary Assembly. The delegation of Ukraine left the meeting room, and soon several more countries expressed their solidarity with Kiev (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Georgia and part of the Polish delegation).
