The project of mobile nuclear reactors is presented in Russia

In Russia, unique reactor installations on an automobile chassis may appear. The project of promising development was presented by engineers from (NIKIET) named after N.A.Dollezhal in the framework of the military-technical forum "Army-2019". Such "mobile" nuclear reactors, according to designers, will be able to significantly expand the boundaries of the peaceful uses of atomic energy.





Presented prospective installations: ATGOR, Shelf, Vityaz and UNITERM have a relatively small capacity and are primarily intended for use in remote settlements where electric power resources are limited. The electricity generated by such "mobile" nuclear power plants will cost significantly (1,5 - 1,7 times) cheaper than that provided by installations on diesel fuel.

As for the reactor itself, it will be installed on a car chassis in a special protective capsule, according to some reports, with an autonomous cooling system.

Recall that NIKIET is a structural unit of Rosatom Corporation and acts as the chief designer of domestic research reactors: SM-3, MIR, PIK, with a capacity of 100 MW, fast IBR-2 and multi-purpose MBIR.

      It’s a bad idea, since emergency protection systems at such an installation will be significantly weaker than at stationary NPPs, namely the strengthening of protection systems will prevent modern NPPs from a new Chernobyl disaster. In particular, stationary NPPs have a capacity into which the molten reactor zone will drain , in the event of an accident at a nuclear power plant that protects the aquifer from radioactive contamination, this is not the case on this semi-trailer ... A stationary nuclear power plant can withstand a direct hit by an air bomb, or an airplane crash, this semi-trailer isn’t ... And more and so on ... In general I am categorically against such attitudes, they are too dangerous ... unreasonably dangerous ...

        The reactor of a submarine or nuclear icebreaker, this is a mobile nuclear power plant. Such nuclear power plants have been operating for many decades. And to make such a floating mobile nuclear power plant, just spit.

          In the event of a reactor accident, the submarine is flooded, which ensures cooling of the reactor with cold water and its relative safety on land and this is not possible ... So I am against such devices ... definitely against it.
