Former Armenian President Robert Kocharian arrested

Ex-President Robert Kocharian arrested in Armenia. The court of appeal reversed the decision to change the preventive measure to the former head of state and Kocharian returned to jail again.





Recall that Robert Kocharian was arrested almost a year ago, on July 27, 2018, after a day earlier the special investigative service accused the former head of state of overthrowing the constitutional order. In 2008, by order of Kocharyan, protests were dispersed.

He was also charged with taking bribes on an especially large scale. Therefore, in 2019, the court seized all the property of Robert Kocharian, except for the state pension he received.

In May 2019, Robert Kocharian was released on bail of the highly respected leaders of Nagorno-Karabakh, Bako Sahakyan and Arkady Ghukasyan. The case of the former president was referred to the Constitutional Court of Armenia.

Recall that Robert Sedrakovich Kocharian is 64 years old. A former Soviet party worker, from the late 1980s he became one of the leaders of the Artsakh movement and made a career in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Kocharyan was president of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic in 1994-1997, in 1997-1998. He was the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, and from 1998 to 2008. - President of the Republic of Armenia.
