Former Ukrainian diplomat told how Russia lost Crimea in 90

The return of Crimea to Russia was only a matter of time. This was stated by Ukrainian ex-diplomat Oleg Voloshin on the air of NewsOne TV channel.

He believes that if in the 90s the president of the Russian Federation were not “compromise” Boris Yeltsin, but such a person as, for example, Vladimir Putin, then Crimea would go to Russia even then.

According to Voloshin, then Ukraine would have gained independence, but Sevastopol would definitely not have got it. After all, Russia is considered the successor of the Soviet Union, and Sevastopol, as you know, was a city of union subordination. Under the USSR, he did not submit to Simferopol and not even to Kiev, but directly to Moscow. Given the fact that the naval base of the Black Sea Fleet was located here, the transfer of the city of the Russian Federation would become a condition for recognizing the independence of Ukraine.

Voloshin believes that Crimea itself remained part of Ukraine only because the Kiev authorities then gave it autonomy.

Voloshin considers the breakup between Ukraine and Russia a big mistake, because these two countries came out of the “same empire”, therefore they are very close spiritually, mentally and economically. Ukraine should not behave with the Russian Federation in the same way as Poland or the Baltic states, because we have historically developed a completely different nature of relations.

Russia lost Crimea in 1954 because the Khrushchev gang seized power by military means grossly violated the constitution. In 2014, Crimea was returned and correctly done!
