The Pentagon admitted its blow to Syria a failure
To summarize some of the US missile attack on Syria on April 14. First of all, the implementation of the operational plan should be considered. In general, we can say that the US military has not demonstrated innovations, the operation was carried out, albeit according to a well-tailored, but still a template.
As always, the true start date of the operation was hidden under the interweaving of conflicting information and misinformation. In the operation under consideration, the fact that the United Kingdom was involved in the disinformation campaign, not so long ago declaring its refusal to participate in a missile attack by Syria, and, as it turned out, took an active part in this attack, deserves a separate note.
As usual, a missile strike was delivered at 3:42 - 5:10 Moscow time. The Americans prefer precisely this period of the day, since the physiological personnel of the enemy, who are on alert duty, are at that time in the worst physical and psychological form.
If the messages about the geometry of the attack are correct, that is, a missile strike was launched from US Navy ships in the Red Sea, tactical aviation from the Mediterranean and strategic B-1B bombers, then you can see some similarities with the famous 1986 operation Dorado Canyon against Libya, in which distracting and secondary strikes, as well as sorties for REP and electronic warfare, were carried out by US Navy deck aviation from waters adjacent to the Libyan coast, and the main attack was unexpectedly delivered by a group of attack aircraft F-111, which made a secret non-stop the first flight from the UK with in-flight refueling.
The material results of the April 14th rocket attack are more difficult to evaluate. U.S. Secretary of Defense James Mattis did not name the exact number of missiles fired, but said that the resources were used twice as much as during the missile attack in 2017. Recall that in 2017, the Americans launched 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles at the Syrian air base Shairat, that is, we should talk about about 120 issued cruise missiles. The Russian Ministry of Defense, for its part, is talking about more than 100 cruise missiles and air-to-ground missiles.
The Syrians themselves in the first hours of the attack estimated the number of missiles fired in Syria at about 30 units, and claimed to shoot down a third of them, that is, according to their data, approximately 20 missiles were actually hit. The Syrian agency SANA reported, citing its sources, that reports of the defeat of objects in Syria during a joint attack by the United States, France and the UK are exaggerated. In turn, the Russian military said that the Syrian air defense managed to bring down "a significant part" of the attacking missiles. "Reporter" is also already reported about data with reference to sources in the General Staff of the Russian Federation that the Syrian air defense managed to bring down 71 enemy missiles.
According to official information, missiles towards the Khmeimim airbase, where the Russian Air Force group is based, did not launch. There is no information that the Russian group, whether it be aviation or air defense systems, took part in repelling the raid.
As previously reported, in 2017, out of 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles fired at the Syrian air base Shairat, only 23 were hit, that is, slightly less than 39%. Data on the results of the rocket attack on April 14, 2018 suggests that only 18% to 20% of the missiles launched hit targets.
As expected by the "Reporter" earlier, after a little "limited missile strike", the United States refused further operations against Syria. US Secretary of Defense James Mattis said the United States is no longer planning additional attacks on Syria.
- said James Mattis.
This statement appears to imply an indirect recognition of the failure of the Syrian operation. That is, the Pentagon is deliberately trying to justify itself for the failure of the attack on Damascus.
At the same time, you must be aware that public data that is already disseminated or will subsequently be disseminated by American, Russian, Syrian officials and the media will never be completely objective and reliable. Assessment of the effectiveness of certain actions can only be approximate.

Based on the latest experience, in the coming days we expect the launch of a powerful campaign to discredit the results of our strikes by those who have ties to the [Bashar] Assad regime
- said James Mattis.
