The invasion of Syria has begun: NATO launches missile strikes
On the night of April 14, the United States and Britain and France, which joined them, began a military operation against Syria. This was announced at 04:15 by Donald Trump, emphasizing that the armed forces of France and the United Kingdom of Great Britain will participate in the strikes along with the American armed forces. As in previous speeches, Trump did not skimp on swearing at Bashar al-Assad, and in relation to Russia and Iran he tried to combine the “stick of threats” with the “carrot” of the usual American promises of the possible restoration of friendly relations “sometime in the future”.
Allied force missile strikes were carried out from 3:42 to 5.10 Moscow time. In total, 100 missiles were fired in Syrian territory, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense. A significant part of the missiles managed to bring down the Syrian air defense forces. The attacks were carried out from two ships of the US Navy in the Red Sea, tactical aircraft and American bombers from the area of Et-Tanf.
The objectives of the attacks were objects of military infrastructure and air defense of Syria. It is known that the government buildings of Damascus have not yet been attacked. Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States Armed Forces, said the attacks were on the research center and warehouses where Syrian chemical weapons could be stored. Not a single missile launched by the United States was in the zone of responsibility of the Russian air defense forces in Tartus and Hmeimim. There is no information about whether the citizens of the Russian Federation located in this country suffered as a result of attacks on Syrian territory. As for the Syrians, according to recent reports, at least six people were injured. Damage from a strike at a research center in Damascus can reach tens of millions of dollars.
Donald Trump already claims that the attacks on Syria will be lengthy and will continue until Bashar Assad allegedly ceases to produce and use chemical weapons. Despite the fact that there is no evidence of the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government forces in the Duma, the West in the person of the USA, Great Britain and France nevertheless decided on a military adventure in Syria. As one would expect, Australia and Canada, faithful Anglo-American satellites, have already supported the start of the operation.
After the missile strikes in Damascus, a spontaneous rally began against American aggression. As for the first reaction of Russian officials and politicians, then it turned out to be very predictable - an expression of indignation, statements that Russia will not leave unpunished strikes on Syria. Interestingly, Trump's actions have already been criticized in the US Senate. It turned out that the president did not receive permission from senators to conduct a military operation in Syria. Senator Jack Reed, for example, said Trump had cornered himself as a result of the launching of missile attacks on Syrian targets.
In the light of the attacks on Syria, two questions immediately arise - whether the Russian armed forces in this country will intervene in the situation if the missiles do not hit Russian targets, and what retaliatory measures Moscow may take against Washington. The fact that this answer is necessary is evidenced even by the fact that US missile strikes are directed not only against Syrian targets, they are directed against Russia, against the reputation of our country as an influential world power capable of protecting its interests and helping allies.
