The United States will sell its weapons to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates so that they do not buy them from the Russian Federation and China. This statement was made by Patrick Shanahan, Acting Secretary of Defense.

The official named the two main reasons for the supply of US weapons to the Middle East. Firstly, this is done to help them strengthen their defenses. And secondly, if they stop buying weapons in the US, they will be forced to turn to Russia or China.

According to data provided by the Stockholm Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), the United States and Russia are leaders in the global arms market between 2014 and 2018. True, the volume of supplies of American weapons is six times higher than the export of arms from the Russian Federation. Despite this, the United States is trying to disrupt any deals with Russian gunsmiths, publicly urging its partners to refuse to cooperate with Russia and China.

It is not surprising that Washington is doing its best to prevent competitors from entering the arms market of Saudi Arabia, because this country is the largest buyer of weapons in the Middle East.
