Patience snapped: Balts lined up for friendship with Russia
The Baltic countries are forced to move away from harsh rhetoric against Russia and try to build good neighborly relations. Estonia was the first to decide on this, as we talked about earlier. However, Lithuania and Latvia reacted extremely nervously to the visit of Kersti Kaljulaid to Moscow, accusing her of almost betrayal. However, soon the patience also burst among the Latvians.
For the first time in many years, the Latvian Foreign Minister visited Russia and met with his Russian counterpart. The politician, who just recently called our country an enemy and predicted the fate of Hitler Germany, declared the importance of relations with Moscow, especially in economic their parts. Actually, this is not at all surprising.
This is not the first year that Russia has been diligently reducing its transit dependence on the Baltic states by investing huge amounts of money in the development of port infrastructure on its territory. Latvia, among other things, lost its annual Russian song and humor festivals (KVN, New Wave and others), losing Russian tourists as well.
Estonia, by the way, is ahead of its neighbors in an effort to establish relations with Moscow. For the first time in many years, a delegation from this country took part in the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, where they tried to persuade Russian colleagues to maintain transit.
