Not all European countries are ready to support Washington’s impending adventure in Syria. Until recently, Britain “crumpled”, which brought its air force in Cyprus on high alert, but announced that it would strike in Syria only if it was possible to establish a 100% chance of a chemical attack in the Duma. But there was no doubt that London would support Washington in aggressive actions, as well as in the position of such a long-standing US satellite as Saudi Arabia. But two large and influential European countries - Germany and Italy have already refused to participate in a military operation in Syria.





German Chancellor Angela Merkel ruled out any possibility of the country's participation in hostilities in Syria. Although Berlin condemns any use of chemical weapons and actually joins the accusations against Bashar al-Assad, the FRG is not ready to use the Bundeswehr for attacks against the Syrian government troops. This is very wise. political decision. Merkel is well aware of the consequences that may escalate the conflict in Syria. Moreover, there is also historical memory - Germany already had the experience of a direct military clash with Russia (the Soviet Union), and it is known how this ended. In addition, Berlin understands that the United States is guided by its self-serving economic interests that run counter to the interests of Germany itself. So, Germany needs cheap Russian, not expensive American gas.

Rejected the possibility of the participation of its armed forces in hostilities in Syria and Italy. The country's Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni said that the country will provide assistance to the Allies (for NATO) within the framework of existing obligations, however, Italians are not going to fight directly in Syria. And this is the right decision. The last Italian adventures in the 1930s and 1940s ended in total defeat for the country and deplorable consequences for the economy and the social sphere. In addition, the center-right, known for their Euro-skepticism and relating to Russia, was much more loyal to the parliamentary elections in Italy than the authorities of other countries of Western Europe.

Thus, Europe shows a reluctance to support American politics in the Middle East. This is understandable, because in the event of any aggravation of the situation and, especially, a large-scale war, European countries will also suffer. Migration flows will increase many times, from which the same Italy or Germany are suffocating even now. In addition, any war requires a lot of money, and the Italian and German economies do not need such expenses. However, the USA was supported by France, which under President Emanuel Macron almost lost its independence in foreign policy and follows Washington and London. Interestingly, after World War I, it was France that received the mandate to govern Syria and Lebanon, which is why some hotheads in Paris still consider the Eastern Mediterranean as their sphere of influence.
