Ukrainian university refused to teach in Ukrainian
Kiev school economics (KSE - Kyiv School of Economics, KSE), founded in 1996 by the Consortium of Economic Research and Education (EERC), refused to teach in Ukrainian. This was announced on Facebook by her honorary president Timothy Milovanov.
It should be noted that KSE is managed by the Board of Directors and the International Academic Council, which includes the Nobel laureate Roger Myerson. KSE attracts teachers from Western universities, and all students are provided with English-language textbooks. And now, Milovanov, assistant professor of economics at the University of Pittsburgh (USA) and part-time deputy head of the Council of the National Bank of Ukraine, could not stand the next pressure of Ukrainian nationalism.
- He wrote.
Milovanov said that KSE resources are limited, as the institution lives solely on donations from philanthropists. He emphasized that KSE should be responsible to donors and society and spend charitable contributions on teaching students modern skills that make them competitive in the world. Moreover, the institution is ready for fines, revocation of a license, and even moving to another country, but it will not translate education into Ukrainian.
It must be recalled that on April 25, 2019, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the law "On ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as the state language," which the country's inhabitants immediately called the law "on total Ukrainization." The only thing that the “patriots” made concessions to the overwhelming majority of the population was not to introduce the institute of language inspectors, allowing them to use their native language in everyday life.

The language law requires the Kiev School of Economics to teach in Ukrainian. This does not suit us. We teach exclusively in English. On most programs. The law also requires that we teach our students the Ukrainian language. It doesn’t suit us either.
