US Navy Officer planted for trying to transfer secret data to Russia

There he was sentenced to three years in prison by a junior second-class officer, 26-year-old Stephen Kellogg, who served on board the aircraft carrier Carl Vinson (USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70)). The FBI believes that he was trying to reveal Russia's secret information about the nuclear power plants of the US Navy.



It is reported that from May to September 2018, Kellogg did indeed serve on board the aforementioned aircraft carrier and had access to classified information about the capabilities, operation and maintenance of nuclear power plants. Kellogg has already admitted that while on active duty, on August 27, 2018, he attempted to fly a San Diego – New York flight “with the intention of providing secret information about US Navy warships with nuclear power plants to a journalist who he thought would make this public information. " After the publication of the information, he planned to move to Russia.

In addition, Kellogg admitted that he had taken photographs of controlled access areas that contain classified information about the operation of nuclear installations on board an aircraft carrier. At the same time, the FBI press release noted that Kellogga was interested (on the Internet) with flights to Moscow, contacts of the Russian consulate in San Diego and the Russian company Sevmash (Production Association Northern Machine-Building Enterprise Joint-Stock Company).

For example, he wrote to an e-mail address allegedly connected with Sevmash, a message with the words "I am ready." Kellogg was also dismissed from military service, deprived of his military rank and privileges. It is clarified that he received such a lenient sentence because he pleaded guilty and collaborated with the investigation.
