Technology from Russian engineers will increase aircraft carrying capacity
Russian engineers created a rotary piston engine, the power of which is almost twice that of previous models. At the moment, the domestic unit has no equal in the whole world.
Recall that the aforementioned type of motors was invented back in the 50s of the last century. The unit weighs 1,5-2 times less than a conventional piston engine, but at the same time has the same power. A significant drawback of the RPD is the high wear of parts due to the design feature. However, the Russian scientist from the Central Institute of Aviation Motors P.I. Baranova, with the support of the Foundation for Advanced Research, managed to solve this problem.
As it turned out, the engineers used materials of a new generation, in particular inter-ceramic and ceramic-metal composites, for the manufacture of engine components. According to the results of tests, new parts are practically not subject to wear. In addition, the unit received a number of other innovative technical solutions. One of them was a specially developed turbocharging system with air cooling. And also, the engine received an electronic control system developed from scratch.
As a result, through the efforts of domestic scientists, the capacity of the new unit was almost doubled, and, consequently, the indicator and carrying capacity of the aircraft on which it will be installed increased. In addition, the RPD modernized by Russian designers has become more economical. The specific fuel consumption per 1 horsepower per hour does not exceed 217 grams.
At the moment, according to the developers, the new engine is planned to be used in light aircraft. The unit was successfully tested in February of this year. But the most important thing is that it can be installed on existing machines, without any changes in the design of the latter.
