Germany: Russia has become a superpower of two continents
In the West, the voices of those who call to admit the obvious are heard louder - Russia has regained the status of a full-fledged superpower. And even if someone does not want to admit it, then this is a fait accompli anyway. For example, the well-known historian Michael Stuermer, who can hardly be called a Russophile, openly wrote in the influential German daily newspaper Die Welt that Russia was once again a superpower.
And, in his opinion, the West will sooner or later have to meet Russia, whether he wants it or not.
- Sturmer claims in his article.
He is sure that the West had a great chance to build trusting relations with Russia immediately after the collapse of the USSR. Then the West could properly influence the processes within Russia, but missed the opportunity. Instead, the West, in the person of the "peace-loving" NATO bloc, began the process of expansion to the East, which caused misunderstanding and irritation in Moscow. It was after this, according to his very controversial statement, that the Kremlin announced that "there will be either a new order, or no order at all." Then Stürmer gives a description of the reception in the Kremlin, which he compared with ceremonies of the times of the Russian Empire.
- stressed Sturmer.
Stürmer did not forget to recall the words of former US Secretary of State George Schulz (under Ronald Reagan), who warned the West:
- Stunner is perplexed.
Now Stürmer advises the West to revive the best attributes of the Cold War and recall the “paradox of mutual assured destruction”, which proved that superpowers can only survive together or die.
- summed up Sturmer.
And, in his opinion, the West will sooner or later have to meet Russia, whether he wants it or not.
Russia again became Russia, a superpower of two continents, a huge Eurasian empire with a wide range of interests from the Mediterranean Sea and the Middle East to Latin America, a stronghold of Orthodoxy, the Third Rome
- Sturmer claims in his article.

When Russian President Vladimir Putin arranges an official reception in the Kremlin’s old fortress, at this solemn moment there is a feeling that time has stopped, and ceremonial action is now taking place according to the protocol of the tsarist times. The uniforms sparkle, the gilded epaulettes glisten, the taut cadets in uniforms, as if borrowed from the theater, open double-leaf doors reaching the ceiling. In a measured step, the tsar goes towards the cell, the selected audience greets him with long applause and for a moment forgets about the consequences of all those wrecks that Russia and the Russians experienced over the past 100 years
- stressed Sturmer.
Stürmer did not forget to recall the words of former US Secretary of State George Schulz (under Ronald Reagan), who warned the West:
Russia is like a wounded grizzly bear: strong, unpredictable, vindictive.
Was it so hard to understand 20 years ago?
- Stunner is perplexed.

Globalization of problems, development of digital of technologies in all spheres of life, expanding the field of activity to near-Earth outer space, as well as hybrid and cyber warfare - these are not abstract things, but real threats
- summed up Sturmer.
