London will not be able to evade the answer for a lie

While the false campaign against Russia continues in the West in connection with the Skripals affair, there are states that support Moscow’s position on the need for a thorough and transparent investigation of what happened.

Russia, China and Iran submitted to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) a draft decision in this case. According to Alexander Shulgin, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the OPCW, this project contained two main points. First, it talked about launching a joint Russian-British investigation to clarify all issues related to Moscow’s prosecution. Secondly, according to the presented document, the OPCW Executive Council should have entrusted the Director General of the Technical Secretariat, Ahmet Uzumju, in every way possible to facilitate such joint work.

The OPCW Executive Council includes 41 countries. At a special meeting held on April 4 in The Hague, only 14 states supported the Russian-Chinese-Iranian document.

During a press conference on the outcome of the meeting, Alexander Shulgin said:

Against the British and Americans. Then, following their example, the states bound by the NATO and EU discipline obediently voted - EU members, NATO members, as well as some American allies in Asia

However, there were truly independent countries that had the courage to resist the views of the United States and Europe in these difficult conditions. According to the Russian Embassy in the Netherlands, the positions of Russia, China and Iran (in addition to these countries) were supported by the following states: Syria, Venezuela, Cuba, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan. Several other members of the OPCW Executive Board abstained. As a result, 23 states (that is, the majority of the council) have no objection to the position of Moscow, Tehran and Beijing. But the truth was still not found there - it was necessary two-thirds of the votes in favor.

Shulgin said that some participants in the meeting tried in every possible way to disrupt his normal course. For example, at the very beginning, Western “partners” tried to impose their point of view on completely different events related to Syria. They proposed to honor with a moment of silence those who died in the village of Khan Sheikhun, Syrian province of Idlib. As you know, the United States and its allies tried to blame the Syrian leadership for this incident, and along with Russia as a country that supports it. In response to this proposal, Russian diplomats have done something else: to honor the memory of all those who died from chemical weapons in Vietnam, Cambodia, Iran and Iraq.

Our partners somehow felt uncomfortable. Do not want to remember all the victims of chemical weapons

- said Shulgin.

According to the Russian permanent representative, London wants to use the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons for its own purposes, so that it simply confirms the words of the British leadership:

Contrary to the algorithm laid down in the Chemical Weapons Convention, our British partners, using procedural tricks, requested technical assistance from the OPCW Technical Secretariat to confirm the results of their national investigation through an independent examination ... The feeling is that they are afraid that during the investigation we will dot the “i” and clarify what really happened. Afraid to actually be responsible for defamation

At the same time, the Russian diplomat expressed confidence that he would not be able to escape from the answer for slander.

Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said that the outcome of the meeting in The Hague is disappointing, but the Russian Federation will continue to seek the truth. So, Moscow demands to convene an open meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss issues on the “Skripals case”.
