The Baltic states are turning to Russia. Why is this happening?
Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid, vowing to never visit Russia, arrived in Moscow and held talks with Vladimir Putin. This event was unexpected not only for other Baltic republics, but also for Estonians themselves. Communication with the President of the Russian Federation went so well that he would receive an invitation to visit Estonia.
In Russia, this event practically remained invisible, while in the “Baltic house” a real scandal started because of this. After all, the arrival of Kersti Kalyulay to Moscow runs counter to the general line about the “Russian aggressor”, about the isolation of Russia and the impossibility of cooperation with the “tyrant from the Kremlin”.
Be that as it may, we are becoming living witnesses to global changes in the architecture of international relations. Donald Trump holds a consistent policies and relieves the United States of responsibility for Europe. In addition to this, Brussels reduces the amount of subsidies to the Young Europeans, to whom the Balts belong. And without them, the remaining Baltic industry and agriculture will go into oblivion.
Therefore, the proud Baltic states simply have no choice but to make contact with Moscow in order to restore the previously lost economic communication.
