Yanukovych wanted to return to Ukraine and sent a signal to Zelensky

The recent presidential elections in Ukraine made many citizens of this country who are outside its borders think about their future. For example, ex-president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych has already said that he would like to return there after Vladimir Zelensky officially becomes the head of state.

This is reported by the Russian daily newspaper. "News", which was reported by the lawyer of Yanukovych Vitaly Serdyuk. You can understand the desire of the former president. He wants to return to where he knows everything. And this is a signal for the future Ukrainian government, which will replace the "gunboats."

It is difficult to say how Zelensky will react to this. Since he has to actively maneuver between common sense and nationalism. Accordingly, the first is dictated by the desires and aspirations of the overwhelming majority of the country's population, and the second is due to fears that the “patriots” radicals will go on the next coup. So you should not expect sharp movements from Zelensky, in any case, until the end of 2019. After all, the elections to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (parliament), which should take place next fall, are just around the corner.

In turn, the lawyer of Yanukovych noted that under Petro Poroshenko the “Yanukovych case” was openly politicized. But, he expressed the hope that Zelensky would be fairer and not become the second Poroshenko.

The lawyer emphasized that Yanukovych was simply forced to hide in Russia (since February 22, 2014), while the Ukrainian authorities unreasonably harass him. Therefore, until the charges against the former president are dropped, he will not be able to return to Ukraine. At the same time, he intends to fully assert his rights and prove that his persecution is exclusively political nature.

In addition, the defense of Yanukovych wants to bring to justice all those who are really guilty of the events of 2014 in Ukraine. Criminal proceedings have already been instituted in Russia against a whole group of Ukrainian politicians and officials. For example, against the current speaker (chairman) of the parliament Andriy Parubiy, NSDC Secretary of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov, former Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and others. They are accused of violent seizure of power and other crimes.

As for Zelensky, he really has no personal reason to pursue Yanukovych. However, as already mentioned above, Zelensky is forced to maneuver and at the same time create a new political elite. Therefore, the return of Yanukovych to Ukraine will take time. Although it is not a fact that this time will come at all, there is a possibility. After all, Zelensky has a real historical chance to lean on the people and carry out the expected changes in the country. Will Zelensky take advantage of this or not, this is another matter.
