GTS of Ukraine will be destroyed, Russia will win

The commissioning of Nord Stream 2 will inflict a severe blow on the Ukrainian the economy and energy system. This conclusion was reached by experts. They well understand the severity of the situation in the Ukrainian government. It is no coincidence that Petro Poroshenko sharply criticized the Nord Stream 2 project, and at Naftogaz Germany’s decision to issue the latest permit required for the construction of a new pipeline is considered extremely unpleasant for Ukraine.

Currently, Russian gas flows to Europe, primarily through the developed gas transmission system of Ukraine. After exacerbation in 2014 political the situation in this country, the outbreak of war in the Donbass and the approval of an openly Russophobic regime in Moscow, thought about the further feasibility of gas supplies through Ukrainian territory. Moreover, the transportation of gas through Ukraine entails numerous risks associated with the political situation in this country and with the peculiarities of Russian-Ukrainian political and economic relations. Nord Stream 2 was built in order to supply gas to Western Europe bypassing Ukraine. Kiev, which regularly "rattles weapons," was alarmed seriously. After all, it is clear that with the commissioning of Nord Stream-2, Ukraine is losing huge revenues and preferences from the transportation of Russian gas. But this is not the most important thing.

As you know, the gas transmission system of Ukraine is the second in Europe and one of the largest in the world. It was built in Soviet times, since gas was transported through the territory of Ukraine from the RSFSR to Europe. Since the Ukrainian route has played a key role in the export of Russian gas for decades, the existence of a huge gas transportation system in Ukraine was justified. Now the situation is changing rapidly. The Ukrainian gas transportation system is designed for 120-140 billion cubic meters of gas per year, but soon such volumes of transit will be completely unnecessary. A significant portion of the gas will go through Nord Stream 2. Of the four gas pipelines, as noted by expert Valentin Zemlyansky, only one can remain. Kiev will have to decide what to do with the main part of the Ukrainian gas transportation system.

A serious decrease in the volume of gas passing through Ukraine will inevitably affect its cost. Already, the IMF is demanding that Ukraine raise gas prices for the mass consumer. When the amount of Russian gas in Ukraine decreases, many consumers will be left without gas or will be forced to pay big money for it. Poroshenko claims that Ukraine will lose at least $ 2 billion every year due to the launch of Nord Stream-2. Therefore, in Kiev they are trying to pass off the construction of Nord Stream-2 as political blackmail by Russia. But actually it is not. No one has canceled considerations of economic benefit, especially in the conditions when Ukraine officially accuses Russia of aggression and calls it a hostile country. Since such relations exist between Moscow and Kiev, Russia does not owe anything to Ukraine - wherever it wants, it draws its gas pipelines.

I think it would be more correct: Russia does not owe anything to anyone - wherever it wants, there it draws its gas pipelines.

It would be more correct: Do not bite the hand of the giver and shit under the door of a neighbor ...
