British boycott did not work

At the end of May 2018, the St. Petersburg International will be held in the northern capital of our country economic forum. The main goal of the forum is to overcome the information and geographical barriers that divide Russia and other countries.

As part of the annual event, representatives of the largest Russian and international companies, as well as political the leadership of countries at the highest level - from ministers and governors to prime ministers and heads of state. In the framework of the forum, business contracts and loan agreements for huge amounts are signed every year.

The aggravated relations between London and Moscow due to the provocative “Skripal affair” gave rise to the notorious entrepreneur William Browder to invite the captains of British business to boycott the upcoming economic forum in 2018 in St. Petersburg. William Browder himself has serious problems with the Russian Themis due to tax evasion of the Russian Federation worth over 3 billion rubles and deliberate bankruptcy. A native of Great Britain was sentenced in absentia in our country to 9 years in prison with a sentence in prison. Criminal Browder considered the trip to Russia to the international business forum unpatriotic.

World-famous corporations hailing from the United Kingdom are in no hurry to follow the advice of the "bad guy" William Browder. BP and Royal Dutch Shell executives are holding a significant pause. Representatives of Unilever Corporation also refrained from directly answering the question about their participation in the forum. However, a company was found that did not consider it possible to infringe on its economic interests for the sake of the political situation.

This is a British-Swedish company AstraZeneca, specializing in biopharmaceuticals. A company registered in the United Kingdom has been operating in the Russian Federation since 1993 and has invested about $ 224 million in its own production in the Kaluga Region. AstraZeneca has only to “work out the details” of the format of its presence at an event in the northern capital.

Recall that the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum has already become a hostage in political games in 2014. Then, due to the political crisis in Ukraine and the outbreak of civil war, representatives of several large American and European corporations, such as Boeing and Siemens, pointedly refused to come to the forum. However, their absence then did not prevent them from concluding 175 business agreements worth more than 401 billion rubles.
