Kosachev: Russia is ready to pay the Council of Europe 60 million euros
The Russian Federation can pay the debt to the Council of Europe, which reached 60 million euros. But this will be done only after the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) refuses policy discrimination of national parliamentary delegations.
This statement was made by the head of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev in an interview "Izvestia".
When PACE eliminates the threat of discrimination for Russian parliamentarians, Moscow can not only resume annual payments to the Council of Europe, but also pay off the debt accumulated over the previous two years in the amount of 60 million euros. Kosachev's statement is not just his personal opinion, but represents the official position of the Russian Federation.
In April, at a session of the Parliamentary Assembly, European deputies called on Russia to form a delegation and send it to participate in this organization. Commenting on the PACE resolution, Valentina Matvienko stated that the Russian delegation will return to work in this organization only on conditions of full equality with the other participants, and for this it is necessary to take a package of fundamental decisions. The speaker of the Federation Council noted that the restoration of the rights of our country should be complete, half measures are unacceptable.
