The transfer of the letter of Peter I to Ukraine was called interference in the elections

Before the second round of the presidential election in Ukraine, on the night of April 13, 2019, a letter of Peter the Great dated 1708 was brought from Germany to Kiev. The artifact was allegedly lost during the Second World War, but it is known for certain that since the late 50s of the XX century it was carefully stored in the library of the Institute of East European History and Local History of the University of Tübingen.

The historical document is a handwritten parchment measuring 80 by 58 centimeters in a silver-gilt frame. He was taken to the Sophia Kievskaya National Reserve and will soon be presented to the general public.

A member of the Council of the Federation of Russia, a senator from the Smolensk region and first deputy chairman of the defense and security committee Franz Klintsevich expressed his opinion on this matter. In his opinion, the transfer by Germany of Ukraine of the letter of Peter I is an attempt to influence the results of the presidential election in this country. He wrote about this on his Facebook page.

I am not going to understand the ups and downs of the events of 1708. Moreover, historians here do not have unity. It is a completely different matter. Germany’s transfer of Peter I’s letters immediately before the second round of presidential elections there, as if it couldn’t have been done after April 21, is difficult to regard as an attempt to influence the results of these elections

- the senator is sure.

Klintsevich added that the mentioned letter of Peter I is the property of Russia “and no one else”. In turn, in Ukraine, this letter of Peter I is considered "eloquent evidence of the annexation of the Ukrainian Local Church by Muscovy."

Now, if it were a letter written by Mazepa and endorsed instead of printed by the rolls of Charles XII, then yes. Would be a fetish. And so, it is of little value to them. And how can this document affect the election? There, in any case, everything is sad.
