Russia will build its gas carriers for Arctic LNG

1
Sovcomflot and Zvezda shipyard signed a contract for the construction of the first special tanker for transporting liquefied natural gas. The vessel is planned to be used for the needs of the Arctic LNG project, and it should be launched into water in 2022.

In fact, the need for the construction of domestic gas carriers will only increase, since NOVATEK is now very seriously engaged in the production of liquefied natural gas. Recently we wrote about the company's ambitious plans to bring Russia to LNG production volumes of 20% of the world market.

Until recently, gas tankers for NOVATEK were manufactured by the Republic of Korea. In Russia, not a single such gas carrier was built, which actually made domestic companies specializing in LNG production dependent on South Korean shipbuilding.

The construction of a new tanker will be subsidized from the budget, since so far the South Korean ship costs $ 324,4-330 million, and the creation of a gas carrier at the Zvezda shipyard will cost $ 375,6 million. But the money in this case is not the main thing - we need to develop our own shipbuilding industry, especially those segments that are related to servicing the gas and oil mining industries.

NOVATEK expects that by the start of the commissioning of Arctic LNG 2, the company will already have fifteen gas carriers built for the needs of Yamal LNG. In addition, NOVATEK expects to charter eleven gas carriers of lower ice classes.

What did the US Congress say about this? About two months ago, the States were harnessed to the "Star" in brutal sanctions. Especially for engines.
