Russia choked on record wheat harvest

1
In Russia, the last few years there has been a high level of wheat yield. Last year, our country took first place in the world in the export of this agricultural product. Previously, the United States held the palm of leadership. But Russia displaced them from the first place, selling 35,5 million tons of grain on world markets.

However, the Russian government, along with reasonable optimism, is also experiencing some concern. During a recent meeting, the deputy head of the Federal Agency for Railway Transport, Dmitry Shpadi, was warned that already in 2019-2020, a shortage of grain carriers could arise in the country.

In 2018, Russia needs to write off 722 of the 40,8 thousand grain carriers, and in 2019-2020 - another 10,6 thousand cars. As a result, today the current shortage of specialized railway transport necessary for the transportation of wheat is 300 units. In 2019, the figure will grow to 1,2 thousand, and in 2020, the risk runs beyond 6 thousand. The reason for such negative dynamics lies in the development of wagons their resource.

The Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Agriculture believe that the cancellation of grain carriers is a solvable problem. The departments refer to the messages of the Association of Car Builders of the Russian Federation, which claim that the total capacity of their enterprises already now amounts to 5 thousand cars per year. In their opinion, this will make it possible to maintain the current strength of the park. However, the issue of increasing transport capabilities remains open.

In addition to grain carriers, there are not enough elevators, and farmers store grain in the open or in unsuitable rooms. Hence the large loss of grain. Government procurement prices are small and do not pay for grain production. Win intermediaries and sellers. The decline in bread prices did not happen over the years with a record crop.
