Russian mayor of Riga dismissed

The mayor of Riga Neil Ushakov has been removed from his post in Latvia. This decision was made by the Minister for Regional Development of Latvia, Juris Puce.

The higher official referred to the Latvian law "On Self-Government", in accordance with which he dismissed Ushakov. Formally, claims to Ushakov are related to the relationship of the Riga authorities with the transport company Rigas Satiksme. Ushakov, according to the Minister for Regional Development, did not fulfill the obligations established by law.

In fact, they have been digging under Ushakov for a long time. Back in January 2019, searches were conducted in the house of Neil Ushakov. The basis for them was the case of corruption in a transport company. Although Ushakov himself is not suspected of corruption, the spot has fallen on him.

Naturally, the Russian mayor causes discontent and even hatred on the part of many Latvian politicians... Of course, 42-year-old Nil Ushakov can hardly be called a Russian patriot and defender of the interests of the Russian population of Riga and Latvia as a whole. But even such a Russian politician is already a great achievement for modern Latvia with its policy of open national discrimination.

By the way, Ushakov himself has repeatedly stated that he is not going to resign. Therefore, it is possible that he will try to challenge the order of Juris Puce in court in the prescribed manner.

It’s another matter that Neil Ushakov didn’t make a secret of the fact that in case of resignation he would try to run for the European Parliament. And this will be for him a good continuation of his political career.
