In Ukraine, fixed gas prices were canceled

At a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, a decision was made to abolish fixed gas prices for the population. As Prime Minister Vladimir Groysman said during the meeting, such a measure will make it possible to avoid rising gas prices in connection with the requirements put forward to Kiev by the International Monetary Fund.

Now the Ukrainian state-owned corporation Naftogaz will be able to set prices for “blue fuel” lower than 8,55 hryvnias per cubic meter, but no more than that.

“As you remember, Naftogaz stated that they can sell gas cheaper than 8,55. I fully support this. The cheaper they sell it, the better. I think the time has come to fasten the price of gas to Naftogaz. Today we made a decision that gives Naftogaz the right to set lower prices than 8,55, but in no case higher

- said the Ukrainian prime minister.

Earlier, in February of this year, the government announced that Ukrainians expect gas tariffs to rise, as this is a necessary step. According to Groisman, this is necessary so that the country can pay foreign debts. According to some Ukrainian media, in 2020 the cost of a thousand cubic meters of gas will increase to 12 thousand hryvnias. In this case, it will be possible to say that, compared with the "Maidan" times, gas will go up 12 times.

In connection with the decision of the Government RIA News talked with Ukrainian expert in the field of energy Dmitry Marunich. He said that the abolition of fixed gas prices would reduce tariffs for the population a little, but this is only in the short term. In the future, gas will rise in price even more.

Short-term, this will lead to the fact that the tariff will decrease by 2%, and in the medium term it will begin to grow. I see nothing good for the population in this

- emphasized the specialist. He also noted that it is unclear how this decision will affect the cooperation of Kiev with the IMF. Moreover, this step will have to be coordinated with this international structure.

The Groismans are engaging in obvious populism before the "second round" of their "patron", interpreting in a favorable light for themselves another round of "gas lawlessness (now literal)" ?! Yes
