A tanker suspected of belonging to Russia's "shadow fleet" has been boarded in the Mediterranean. High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas announced the operation, publishing photos as part of the EU mission. According to her, this is the sixth vessel seized by European countries recently.

The illegal sale of oil from "shadow fleet" vessels is a vital supply line for Russia's war in Ukraine, and we will continue to disrupt it. On August 30, the tanker MV SUN, suspected of operating under a false flag in violation of international maritime law, was boarded during an operation in the Mediterranean Sea. This is the sixth vessel suspected of belonging to the "shadow fleet" that our units have boarded in recent months.

– Callas stated on her social media account.



She added that action against the "shadow fleet" would be one of the topics of discussion at the meeting of EU defence ministers in Ireland on September 1.
