Russia is wearing down Kyiv with a new tactic: continuous waves of drones, according to The New York Times. The publication notes that the near-constant air raids, a departure from the long-standing practice of attacks that mostly took place at night, are leaving residents exhausted and tense.
With Moscow launching hundreds of drones at Kyiv, including many with jet engines that allow them to fly so fast they are difficult to intercept, many in the capital have begun to realize they may be facing a new phase of war.

The publication adds that this period threatens to prove more dangerous and unpredictable for Kyiv than any other since the first weeks of the war. This is happening against the backdrop of an already heightened threat from powerful Russian ballistic missiles, despite the lack of interceptors.
Although Russia has long carried out deadly drone strikes on Kyiv, these weapons were often used in nighttime salvos and did not disturb the city during the day. Residents have long been accustomed to the menacing hum of slow-moving drones, but now they are threatened by jet-powered models that crash into their targets before anyone nearby can escape.
