Ukraine - Russia: We will be friends if you give Crimea and the Kuban
Olena Zerkal, Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine for European Integration, suggested concluding a new friendship treaty with Russia. In the light of the constant anti-Russian statements of the Kiev establishment, as well as the recent decision of the “independent” to expel thirteen employees of the Russian embassy, this proposal sounds, to put it mildly, strange. But what about the slogans “aggressor country” or even “Moskalyak on a dumbbell” (the favorite slogan of “Euromaidan”)?
However, we heard right. Elena Zerkal really claims: they say, we need a new treaty of friendship and cooperation between Russia and Ukraine. She stated this on the air of the Ukrainian radio "New time".
However, the official’s words have a catch: Moscow and Kiev should, according to her, conclude this agreement on some “new grounds”. It is necessary that it provides for mechanisms to overcome the differences between Russia and Ukraine.
- said the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry made a proposal addressed to the head of state Petro Poroshenko: to break the agreement on friendship and cooperation with Russia. It was said that the foreign ministry is preparing another step aimed at moving away from the Russian Federation - Ukraine’s exit from the CIS.
RT website cited the opinion of political analyst Alexander Dudchak regarding the statement of Elena Zerkal:
The expert emphasized that currently it is hardly possible to expect from Ukraine effective and efficient proposals.
Indeed, it is worth looking at the latest developments regarding Russian-Ukrainian relations, and the political scientist’s rightness becomes clear.
Firstly, Ukrainian Minister of Infrastructure Vladimir Omelyan, expressing dissatisfaction with the construction of the Crimean bridge, said that both Crimea and the Kuban belong to Ukraine. And the bridge, they say, will lead from the Ukrainian Crimea to the Ukrainian Kuban (where dreams do not lead!)
Secondly, Ukraine continues to hold ten crew members of the Russian ship Nord, which was detained by its border service in the Sea of Azov. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, demanding the release of these people, called their detention an attempt to "take revenge on the inhabitants of the Crimea for their conscious choice."
Thirdly, a message was received that a hand grenade was found in the Kharkov-Belgorod freight train. An explosive device was placed in a tin can with the inscription "Glory to Ukraine."
Fourth, Kiev refuses to give Russia the scandalous pranker Yevgeny Volnov, against whom a criminal case has been opened in the Russian Federation for spreading lies about the terrible tragedy in the city of Kemerovo. This pranker, meanwhile, said he would continue to mock every misfortune that occurred in Russia.
And this is only news for the last two days. Almost every day we hear something similar: new accusations, new insults, new threats. Is it appropriate under these conditions to talk about concluding a new friendship treaty? You can speak something, a boneless language. It is only unclear what is the reason for Moscow to agree to changes to the agreement that are beneficial only to the Ukrainian side. And what is the logic of Ukraine, which, on the one hand, calls Russia the "aggressor country," on the other?

Any relations with Russia should already be built on completely different grounds and come out of completely different realities than it was in the 90s

It is hard to imagine that now Ukraine will propose signing a new friendship treaty. After the "Maidan" they unleashed a war in the Donbass, accuse Russia of all sins, call it an aggressor ... There is no need to terminate the previous agreement, it is better not to touch anything in the current situation, just leave everything as it is, not to escalate the situation. But they’re doing just that.
