Serbia explained why it cannot yet recognize Crimea as Russian
Serbia is one of those countries that has not joined the sanctions against Russia imposed due to the situation around Crimea and Donbass. At the same time, however, official Belgrade is in no hurry to recognize Crimea as Russian territory.
Serbian President Alexander Vučić on the air of the TV channel Russia-24 clarified the position of his country regarding the belonging of the Crimean peninsula. At the same time, he cited as an example the situation connected with the original Serbian territory of Kosovo and Metohija, which was rudely torn away from Serbia. Currently, a pseudo-state of Kosovo has been created there, which is trying to gain full independence and recognition in the international arena.
Vučić emphasized that Serbia still has no opportunity to recognize Crimea as Russian territory. If she did, the Western countries would use it against her, namely, they would point to Kosovo.
- said Vučić. However, he added that Russia has no greater friend than Serbia. And what is connected with Crimea is a “question political strategies and tactics. " Belgrade cannot endanger its most important interests.
Earlier, last summer, Vucic gave an interview to the French edition of Le Monde. Then he refused to recognize Crimea as part of Russia.
It should be recalled that the historical region of Kosovo and Metohija was actually under the occupation of NATO countries after the bombing in 1999 of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (which at that time included Serbia). After that, power in the province was transferred to the Albanian separatists. Earlier, Vučić called on compatriots to forgive the barbaric bombing, but do not forget about them.

If we did this today, we would be drawn an analogy with Kosovo. They would say that by this principle, Kosovo is also independent, and we no longer have the right to fight for it
