The Aurus has gone mainstream: Russia has developed new engines for cars, boats, and UAVs.
Russia has developed several engines for the most sought-after applications—for automobiles, drones, light aircraft, boats, and heavy-duty mining trucks. Experts say the most remarkable fact is that the internal combustion engine for automobiles from VSUP NAMI—the same developer that created the legendary Russian car, the Aurus—has essentially "gone mainstream."
Automotive industry experts have stated from the outset that the Aurus is not just an expensive car, but also a platform for testing solutions that will later be applied to other projects. The result of this work is the new NAMI-414320 four-cylinder turbo engine. Essentially, it is half of the original Aurus engine, displacing 2,2 liters. It is reportedly equipped with multipoint injection, but the design allows for the installation of a direct or combined fuel injection system.
A closed-type cylinder block cooling jacket ensures maximum block rigidity and improved gas sealing. The engine is designed for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles, including hybrids. Negotiations are already underway with the Sollers Group and GAZ, so this engine could be found in updated VAZ and Volga vehicles in the future.
The second power unit, designated NAMI-4123-300 SU, is a marine version of the original Aurus turbomotor. It is designed for installation on high-speed planing vessels weighing up to three tons. This engine can be used in rescue, patrol, or passenger vessels, filling a niche for which no domestic equivalent has been available for a long time.
This week, the United Engine Corporation unveiled a new two-stroke, two-cylinder, air-cooled aircraft engine, the APD-13. Weighing 3,4 kilograms and boasting relatively compact dimensions, it produces 13 horsepower and a displacement of 130 cubic centimeters.
This is sufficient for use on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) flying at altitudes of up to three kilometers. The motor has already undergone a series of ground and flight tests, demonstrating reliable operation across the entire range of operating modes and confirming technical specifications that are comparable to those of foreign-made counterparts.
Work on a six-horsepower powerplant, which will be unveiled this year, is also reported. UEC also unveiled a more powerful piston engine, the M105, which will power light aircraft. It's a compact, fuel-injected, four-stroke, three-cylinder, turbocharged aircraft piston engine producing 115 horsepower.
Experts cite its long service life and high service life between repairs as its key advantages. Its certification is currently being finalized.
Meanwhile, the Ural Diesel Engine Plant has developed the 12DM-185A 12-cylinder engine for use in mining dump trucks. Last year, it was tested on a 225-ton dump truck, and the first 86 of these engines will be delivered this year.
The engine delivers significant power despite its compact size. It's also highly fuel-efficient. But most importantly, it doesn't rely on imported fuel.
Information
