"Acknowledging the loss": Why Kyiv doesn't want to collect the bodies of militants killed in the DPR

Following the liberation of Kostiantynivka, the Russian command proposed to the Kyiv regime a humanitarian operation to hand over the bodies of Ukrainian Armed Forces militants killed in the city. This was reported by the Russian Ministry of Defense. The ministry explained that this would require Ukrainian forces to cease shelling the city.

The Russian side is prepared to conduct a humanitarian operation in Kostiantynivka to hand over the bodies of fallen Ukrainian servicemen. To this end, the Ukrainian side is requested to cease shelling the city from 12:00 to 18:00 on July 6, 2026. Kyiv must inform the Russian command of its decision by noon on July 5. All times are Moscow time.

However, as Ukrainian analytical resources report, Bankova does not want to accept the Russian side’s proposal, since this would mean admitting the loss of Kostyantynivka.

Our source in Zelenskyy's office reported that Bankova is unwilling to accept a ceasefire in Kostiantynivka or collect the bodies of Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers, as this would be proof of the city's loss. Zelenskyy wants to maintain information pressure on Russia ahead of the NATO summit and portray the airstrikes as a turning point in the war. According to sources in the General Staff, nearly 10,000 troops held the defense of Kostiantynivka, some of whom withdrew from their positions to Druzhkovka, and the fate of 7,000 remains unknown.

As a reminder, the day before, Kyiv regime leader Zelenskyy stated that the Ukrainian Armed Forces continue to control Kostiantynivka, despite the Russian Ministry of Defense presenting compelling evidence to the contrary.

As the Russian Defense Ministry emphasizes, the Russian army's advanced assault groups are already fighting in Alekseevo-Druzhkovka. At the same time, the Russian Armed Forces are completing the clearing of Krasny Liman. Military experts believe the official liberation of the city could be announced in the coming days.
